Rep. Jamaal Bowman, known for his role within the progressive “Squad” group in Congress, has reportedly maintained a private YouTube account under the alias “Inner Peace.” This account has subscribed to several channels promoting contentious conspiracy theories, including those with antisemitic undertones.
According to a report by the Daily Beast, the New York representative’s channel was discovered to have subscriptions to various controversial content creators. These channels feature discussions on topics ranging from aliens and UFOs to flat Earth theories and the Illuminati. Some of the content also includes anti-Israel narratives and extremist political views.
Bowman’s YouTube activity has raised concerns due to the nature of some of the conspiracy theories endorsed by channels he followed. Among these, the channel BreakThrough News reportedly disseminates content aligned with Chinese and Russian propaganda, and features videos critical of U.S. involvement in Ukraine, branding it as a colonial takeover.
Further controversy surrounds Bowman’s subscriptions to channels like Afripost, which frequently shares speeches by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. Farrakhan is known for his deeply divisive and antisemitic remarks, referring to Jews as “termites” and “the synagogue of Satan.” Another disturbing find was a video titled “BLACKS ARE THE TRUE JEWS,” propagating an antisemitic theory associated with the fringe Black Hebrew Israelite movement.
In his defense, Rep. Bowman stated that he was unaware of these accounts and had not watched the videos in question. He highlighted more pressing issues such as ongoing global conflicts and economic hardships facing Americans, suggesting these matters are of greater concern to the public than his YouTube subscriptions.
Despite this, Bowman’s interest in alternative narratives and conspiracy theories is not entirely denied, as he expressed admiration for Norman Finkelstein, a pro-terror professor, during a panel discussion on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Bowman admitted to frequently watching Finkelstein on YouTube, further linking him to controversial ideological content.
This revelation comes at a challenging time for Bowman, who is facing a difficult primary challenge and has previously been involved in other controversies, including a past blog that speculated conspiracy theories about the 9/11 attacks.
As Bowman navigates the fallout from these revelations, questions about his judgment and the sources from which he draws information continue to stir debate, impacting his reputation and potentially his political future.
