Two people were injured in separate slashing attacks at New York City’s Grand Central subway station on Christmas Eve, causing panic during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. The suspect, who allegedly carried out the violent assaults, was quickly apprehended by police and is now facing serious charges.

The first attack occurred in the evening when a man reportedly slashed a commuter’s face near one of the station’s platforms. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as fellow passengers rushed to help the victim and called for police assistance. Moments later, the assailant moved to another area of the station and targeted a second victim, slashing their arm before fleeing the scene.

Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and are expected to recover. The motive behind the attacks remains unclear, but authorities are investigating whether they were random or premeditated.

“This kind of violence has no place in our city, especially in a transit hub as critical as Grand Central,” an NYPD spokesperson said in a statement. “Thanks to the swift actions of our officers, the suspect was taken into custody before further harm could occur.”

The incident has raised concerns among commuters and prompted renewed calls for increased security in the subway system. “I’ve been riding the subway for years, but this makes me feel uneasy, especially during the holidays,” said one passenger who witnessed the aftermath.

City officials, including Mayor Eric Adams, have pledged to evaluate safety measures and deploy additional officers to ensure the safety of riders. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) echoed these commitments, emphasizing their dedication to addressing public safety concerns.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging anyone with additional information about the incidents to come forward. The suspect faces multiple charges, including assault and criminal possession of a weapon, as the city works to restore a sense of safety during the holiday season.
