In a significant development, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has uncovered approximately 2,400 previously undisclosed records related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. These documents, totaling around 14,000 pages, had not been reviewed by any disclosure board prior to this discovery. The revelation comes in the wake of an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on January 23, 2025, mandating the declassification of records pertaining to the assassinations of President Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The executive order directs the Director of National Intelligence and the Attorney General to develop plans for the release of these records within specified timeframes. In compliance with this directive, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence recently presented its strategy for disclosing the remaining files, during which the existence of these additional FBI records was disclosed.

Jefferson Morley, a representative from the Mary Ferrell Foundation, emphasized the importance of this discovery, noting that it signifies a departure from decades of secrecy surrounding the Kennedy assassination. He highlighted the FBI’s commitment to addressing the presidential order and moving towards greater transparency.

The newly found documents are anticipated to provide deeper insights into the events surrounding the assassination, a subject that has been the focus of extensive investigation and numerous conspiracy theories over the past six decades. As the declassification process progresses, historians and the public alike await the potential revelations contained within these records.

This initiative reflects a broader governmental effort to enhance transparency and public access to historical records, particularly those related to pivotal events in American history. The forthcoming release of these documents is expected to contribute significantly to the understanding of the circumstances surrounding President Kennedy’s assassination.
