Governor Kathy Hochul has delayed a planned meeting with President Donald Trump following the Department of Justice’s recent lawsuit against New York State. The lawsuit challenges the state’s “Green Light Law,” which allows undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses while limiting federal access to state motor vehicle records.

Federal officials argue that the law obstructs immigration enforcement, while Hochul has defended it, stating that authorities can still access DMV records with a judicial warrant. She maintains that the law strikes a balance between privacy rights and public safety.

The meeting between Hochul and Trump, initially set to discuss federal and state cooperation on key issues, is now expected to be rescheduled. The postponement comes as legal battles over state and federal authority continue to escalate, adding to tensions between New York officials and the administration.
