In a recent exchange, President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, criticized Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) for hosting a webinar aimed at informing migrants of their rights during encounters with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Homan suggested that such actions could impede federal law enforcement efforts and potentially place Ocasio-Cortez in legal jeopardy.

The webinar, titled “Know Your Rights with ICE,” provided participants with information on how to handle ICE interactions, including advice on legal rights and how to respond to search requests. Ocasio-Cortez promoted the event by sharing informational posters in both English and Spanish on social media, encouraging widespread dissemination to educate individuals on their constitutional protections.

In response to Homan’s remarks, Ocasio-Cortez took to social media to defend her actions, emphasizing the importance of understanding constitutional rights and ensuring that ICE operations comply with legal standards. She reiterated her commitment to providing educational resources to the public, aiming to empower communities with knowledge to protect themselves during enforcement actions.

This incident highlights the ongoing debate over immigration enforcement policies and the role of public officials in advocating for immigrant communities. While Homan argues that such educational efforts may obstruct law enforcement, Ocasio-Cortez and her supporters contend that informing individuals of their rights is a fundamental aspect of upholding justice and constitutional protections.
