Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President John F. Kennedy, has publicly criticized the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) following the temporary closure of the JFK Presidential Library and Museum in Boston. The closure resulted from staff layoffs mandated by a recent executive order from President Donald Trump.
Schlossberg expressed his frustration on social media, accusing DOGE, led by Elon Musk, of attempting to “steal the past” from the American people. He contended that the layoffs and closure were less about enhancing government efficiency and more about manipulating historical narratives.
The executive order in question led to the dismissal of probationary employees, which rendered the library unable to operate effectively, necessitating its temporary shutdown. The JFK Library Foundation expressed deep concern over the abrupt terminations and pledged ongoing support for the institution.
Despite the library reopening the following day, Schlossberg’s outspoken remarks have reignited discussions about the balance between governmental reforms and the preservation of historical institutions. This incident also highlights Schlossberg’s ongoing pattern of public outbursts, which have previously drawn attention and sparked debate regarding the Kennedy family’s legacy.
