In a recent development, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to moderate his public criticisms of President Donald Trump and to consider accepting a proposed rare-earth minerals agreement. This comes amid heightened tensions as peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia continue.

The proposed deal involves the United States acquiring a 50% stake in Ukraine’s rare-earth mineral reserves, valued at approximately $500 billion, in exchange for continued American support in Ukraine’s conflict with Russia. President Zelensky had previously dismissed the initial offer, citing insufficient security assurances for Ukraine. In response, President Trump labeled Zelensky a “dictator without elections” and cautioned that Ukraine risked losing its sovereignty if an agreement was not reached promptly.

Waltz emphasized the importance of the deal, stating that it includes substantial security guarantees for Ukraine and represents a significant economic opportunity. He also highlighted the extensive support the U.S. has provided to Ukraine, suggesting that continued cooperation is contingent upon mutual respect and collaboration.

Despite the strained discourse, President Zelensky has expressed a willingness to engage in further discussions to achieve a durable peace and secure effective security guarantees for Ukraine. The situation remains dynamic, with both nations navigating complex diplomatic and economic considerations in pursuit of a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
