Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has defended U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent controversial remarks suggesting that Ukraine instigated the ongoing conflict with Russia. Johnson asserts that Trump’s comments are strategic provocations aimed at galvanizing European nations into taking more decisive action to resolve the war.

In a statement on social media platform X, Johnson emphasized that while Trump’s assertions may not be factually accurate, their purpose is to jolt European leaders out of complacency. He urged Europe to focus less on being scandalized by Trump’s rhetoric and more on contributing effectively to the peace process.

Johnson highlighted the substantial frozen Russian assets, approximately $300 billion, held within European financial institutions. He advocates for the release of these funds to support Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts and to reimburse the United States for its financial aid to Kyiv. This proposal underscores a broader strategy to leverage existing resources to facilitate a resolution to the conflict.

Despite the contentious nature of Trump’s statements, Johnson’s perspective suggests a pragmatic approach, viewing the provocative rhetoric as a catalyst for increased European engagement in ending the hostilities. This stance reflects ongoing debates about the most effective methods to achieve peace and stability in the region.
