Rep Ogles Files Resolution to Punish Democrats Who Disrupted House Proceedings

Several House Democrats who voted against censuring Rep. Al Green for disrupting President Donald Trump’s congressional address may now face repercussions, including potential removal from key committee assignments. The move is being considered by Republican leadership in response to what they view as an attempt to shield Green from accountability.

Green’s outburst during Trump’s speech led to his removal from the chamber and sparked a censure resolution that ultimately failed due to opposition from some Democratic lawmakers. Now, GOP members are reportedly weighing options to penalize those who helped derail the measure, arguing that their actions undermined congressional order.

Some Republican leaders have suggested that Democrats who voted against the censure should lose their committee assignments as a consequence. While no final decision has been made, discussions within the party indicate that punitive measures are on the table.

Democrats, on the other hand, have defended their votes, arguing that Green’s protest was an exercise of free speech and that censure was an unnecessary response. The potential fallout highlights deepening tensions in the House, with both sides using the incident to rally their political bases. As the debate continues, it remains unclear whether committee removals will move forward or if the issue will fade as Congress shifts focus to other legislative matters.
