Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett is facing a formal censure effort after mocking Governor Greg Abbott with a derogatory nickname referencing his disability. The controversy erupted following Crockett’s public remarks in which she referred to Abbott, who is paralyzed from the waist down, as “Hot Wheels” during a political event.

The comment quickly drew condemnation from both Republicans and Democrats, with critics accusing Crockett of crossing the line by targeting the governor’s physical condition. Lawmakers called the remark offensive and disrespectful, urging immediate disciplinary action against the congresswoman.

In response, a group of House members initiated a censure resolution, arguing that Crockett’s statement was unbecoming of an elected official and undermined the standards of conduct expected in public office. The measure seeks to formally reprimand Crockett and demand a public apology to the governor.

Governor Abbott has not publicly responded to the incident, but his allies blasted the insult as a low blow aimed at scoring political points. The growing backlash has fueled debate over the use of personal attacks in politics and the need for accountability when elected leaders engage in offensive rhetoric.

As the censure effort gains momentum, Crockett has yet to issue a statement addressing the calls for action or clarifying her remarks. A vote on the resolution is expected in the coming days as pressure mounts for the congresswoman to respond.
