A Venezuelan migrant deported from the United States after assaulting a New York Police Department officer received an unexpected welcome from a government official upon arriving back in Venezuela. The individual, whose attack on law enforcement sparked widespread outrage, was greeted at the airport by a representative of Venezuela’s ruling party.

The deportation followed the migrant’s arrest and conviction for assaulting an NYPD officer during an incident that drew national attention. U.S. authorities confirmed the individual was removed from the country as part of ongoing efforts to deport violent offenders.

Upon landing in Venezuela, the deported migrant was publicly embraced by the official, who praised him as a “victim of political persecution.” The reception was broadcast by local media, portraying the return as a symbolic rejection of U.S. immigration policies.

The encounter immediately drew criticism from U.S. officials and law enforcement advocates, who condemned the glorification of a convicted attacker. NYPD representatives expressed frustration over the display, arguing it sends the wrong message to violent offenders targeting police.

Venezuelan authorities have not commented further on the reception, but the incident has intensified diplomatic tensions as both countries continue to clash over immigration, crime, and law enforcement matters.
