Karoline Leavitt Slams Report on Musk’s Exit from DOGE

Elon Musk will continue serving as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), as confirmed by White House officials, who said Musk’s departure has been postponed until the department completes a series of high-priority initiatives.

Originally expected to step down this spring, Musk has agreed to remain in his role for an extended period after discussions with senior administration officials. The White House stated that Musk’s continued leadership is vital to concluding the final phase of DOGE’s ambitious restructuring plan aimed at overhauling how federal agencies manage budgets, staffing, and digital infrastructure.

Musk, who was appointed to lead DOGE shortly after President Trump’s second inauguration, has spearheaded a sweeping series of cost-cutting measures and technology-driven reforms. His tenure has been marked by both praise for modernizing government systems and criticism over rapid downsizing and automation efforts.

According to officials familiar with the revised transition timeline, Musk will stay in place until the department finalizes a multi-agency integration of AI-based management systems and completes the elimination of several outdated bureaucratic programs. The final steps are reportedly on track to be implemented by late summer.

Musk has not publicly commented on the decision but has indicated in recent briefings that he views the remaining work as “mission-critical.” Internal sources say he intends to leave the agency only after the full roadmap has been executed and operational benchmarks are met.

Despite earlier speculation that he was preparing to return to private ventures full-time, Musk’s presence in the federal government is expected to remain visible in the coming months, particularly as Congress begins oversight hearings into DOGE’s role in agency consolidation and workforce reductions.

The White House emphasized that there is no immediate plan to name a successor, suggesting Musk’s extended role could stretch well beyond the original timeline if necessary.

The update comes amid growing political debate about DOGE’s influence on long-term government staffing and how private-sector leadership fits into public service roles. Musk’s extended stay ensures that the administration’s flagship efficiency initiative will maintain continuity as it nears its final implementation phase.
