A man has been taken into custody following a suspected arson incident at a state office connected to Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, authorities confirmed Sunday.

The suspect, identified as a 49-year-old male, allegedly set fire to the Scranton district office late Saturday evening. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the individual dousing the building’s exterior with a flammable liquid before igniting it and fleeing the scene.

Emergency crews responded quickly and extinguished the flames before the fire could spread inside. Damage to the building was limited to the facade, and no injuries were reported. Investigators said the suspect was apprehended hours later without incident.

Governor Shapiro condemned the act, calling it a “cowardly attack” on public service and vowing to continue his work undeterred. Officials have not released a motive, though law enforcement is examining whether the incident was politically motivated.

The suspect is expected to face multiple felony charges, including arson, criminal mischief, and reckless endangerment. The investigation remains ongoing.
