Trump to Return to U.K. for Rare Second State Visit at King Charles’s Invitation

President Donald Trump is set to make a return visit to the United Kingdom in September 2025 after receiving a second formal state invitation—an honor rarely extended by the British monarchy and made possible due to his non-consecutive presidential terms.

The invitation, delivered earlier this year by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, included a personal message from King Charles III reflecting on their previous meetings and expressing a desire to deepen diplomatic ties amid shared global priorities.

Though final details are still being arranged, discussions include a possible private meeting at Balmoral Castle or Dumfries House in Scotland, locations favored by the King. Trump, however, is reportedly interested in a more ceremonial setting like Windsor Castle, where he was previously hosted by Queen Elizabeth II during his 2019 state visit.

If the visit proceeds as expected, Trump will be the first American president to receive two official state invitations from the U.K., highlighting the significance of the ongoing U.S.–U.K. alliance and its symbolic reinforcement under changing leadership on both sides of the Atlantic.
