Trump Cracks Down on Bureaucracy, New “At-Will” Rule Will Purge Anti-Agenda Staffers

President Donald Trump has unveiled plans to overhaul the federal workforce by granting his administration broad authority to dismiss career government employees who fail to support his policy agenda.

Under the proposed reforms, thousands of federal workers involved in shaping or implementing public policy could be reclassified into a new employment category—tentatively known as “Schedule F”—which would strip them of traditional civil service protections and make them subject to termination at will.

Trump framed the initiative as a move to ensure government efficiency and loyalty, arguing that entrenched bureaucrats have obstructed progress and resisted the will of elected leadership. He said only personnel aligned with the administration’s direction should remain in key policy-making roles.

Supporters of the proposal see it as a long-overdue correction to a bloated and unaccountable federal system. Critics, however, warn it could erode the nonpartisan nature of the civil service and open the door to politically motivated purges within key agencies.

Legal experts anticipate challenges to the plan, especially over concerns that it may violate protections established to preserve a politically neutral and stable workforce. Still, Trump has signaled he is prepared to advance the restructuring as a central part of his governing strategy.
