Trump’s 14th Week in Office: Trade Tensions, Global Diplomacy, and Easter Traditions Shape Busy Agenda

President Donald Trump’s 14th week back in the White House was marked by a high-stakes balancing act between trade battles abroad, diplomacy efforts in Europe, and Easter celebrations at home.

The week kicked off with intensified trade talks as South Korean officials traveled to Washington in response to the United States’ recent imposition of a 25% tariff. Negotiations focused on narrowing the U.S. trade deficit, with administration officials also holding parallel discussions with Japan and the European Union. Treasury leaders expressed cautious optimism, signaling that progress was being made toward new trade agreements.

Amid the tense negotiations, the White House maintained one of its most cherished traditions — the Easter Egg Roll. Hosted by First Lady Melania Trump, the event welcomed thousands of families onto the South Lawn, with colorful eggs provided by American farmers. The celebration, a tradition dating back to 1878, served as a brief respite from the heavy political agenda dominating the week.

Foreign policy remained at the forefront as Trump met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to discuss prospects for brokering a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Trump signaled that while he remained hopeful for a resolution, negotiations would proceed on a timeline set by the United States. Vice President JD Vance confirmed that preliminary proposals were on the table, suggesting modest territorial adjustments while attempting to maintain stability near the current frontlines.

Later in the week, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump traveled to Rome to attend the funeral of Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Square, joining over 250,000 mourners from around the world. During the visit, Trump also held a brief but symbolic meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the first since their face-to-face conversation in February.

Meanwhile, controversy stirred back home after reports surfaced that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had shared information about a military strike on the Houthis in a private chat that included family members and his attorney. While critics raised alarms over the breach of protocol, the White House defended Hegseth, stressing his dedication to national security and dismissing concerns about mishandling classified details.

As President Trump approaches the 100-day milestone of his second term, the administration faces growing pressure both domestically and internationally. With trade negotiations intensifying, global conflicts simmering, and political scrutiny mounting, the coming weeks promise to test the White House’s ability to deliver on its promises while maintaining stability at home and abroad.
