President Donald Trump has removed Doug Emhoff, husband of former Vice President Kamala Harris, from the United States Holocaust Memorial Council in a sweeping move to restructure key government boards.
The decision came as part of Trump’s broader initiative to replace holdover appointees from the Biden administration with individuals aligned with his current agenda. Emhoff, who was serving on the board of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, had been appointed during his wife’s vice presidency.
The White House confirmed the termination letter had already been sent, making Emhoff one of several prominent figures ousted from federal positions this week. Although the museum board traditionally includes bipartisan members, Trump has expressed a desire to re-evaluate appointments made under the previous administration.
Sources familiar with the decision say that new nominees will be announced soon, with a focus on those who reflect the president’s “America First” priorities.
The museum board, which helps guide policies and fundraising for the national Holocaust institution, is expected to continue operating without disruption.
