McMahon Slams Harvard Over Campus Antisemitism, Tells School to Forget Federal Money

Education Secretary Linda McMahon has announced that Harvard University will no longer receive federal research grants, citing the institution’s handling of antisemitism on campus. In a recent letter to Harvard President Alan Garber, McMahon criticized the university for what she described as a “systemic pattern of violating federal law,” referencing issues related to campus protests and alleged discrimination. She emphasized that receiving taxpayer funds is a privilege, not a right, and pointed to Harvard’s substantial endowment as a reason the university should rely on private funding.

The decision follows the Trump administration’s broader initiative to address antisemitism in higher education institutions. Harvard has responded by filing a lawsuit against the administration, arguing that the funding freeze infringes upon the university’s autonomy and academic freedom. The outcome of this legal battle could have significant implications for the relationship between federal funding and institutional governance in academia.
