New York Attorney General Letitia James was interrupted during a town hall event in Westchester County when a supporter of former President Donald Trump stood up and demanded she apologize for allegedly misusing public funds, referencing the ongoing federal investigation into her mortgage dealings.

The protester was quickly escorted from the venue as James maintained her composure and continued addressing the audience. She was joined at the event by attorneys general from several other states, including California and Illinois.

The Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation into allegations that James misrepresented details about two properties—one in Brooklyn and another in Virginia—to obtain favorable mortgage terms. The probe is examining potential violations such as wire fraud, bank fraud, and making false statements to financial institutions.

James has strongly denied the accusations, calling them politically motivated and without merit. Despite the mounting scrutiny, she emphasized her respect for differing views and continued her engagement with the community during the event.

If formal charges are brought, state funds may be used to cover her legal defense, as outlined in a recently approved provision of the state budget. The investigation continues as federal authorities review evidence tied to the complaint.
