Federal authorities have identified the man responsible for the deadly bombing of a Palm Springs fertility clinic as 25-year-old Guy Edward Bartkus, a California resident with a history of anti-natalist extremism.

The attack occurred on May 17 outside the American Reproductive Centers facility. Bartkus died at the scene after detonating explosives near a silver Ford Fusion. Four others were injured in the blast. Although the building sustained heavy damage, no patients or embryos were harmed since the clinic was closed at the time.

Investigators recovered a tripod and camera at the scene, suggesting Bartkus had attempted to record or livestream the attack. A subsequent search of his home uncovered two rifles and a cache of ammunition, prompting nearby evacuations as a precaution.

Authorities say Bartkus left behind a manifesto and a 30-minute audio recording explaining his motivation. He described himself as a “pro-mortalist” who opposed reproduction on philosophical grounds, arguing that life causes inevitable suffering and that procreation is unethical.

The FBI is treating the incident as an act of domestic terrorism and is continuing to examine Bartkus’s digital footprint and potential connections to extremist ideologies or online communities. While officials believe the attacker acted alone, they are remaining alert to any signs of coordinated efforts or copycat threats.

As the Palm Springs community recovers, law enforcement agencies have emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public, and security has been tightened around similar facilities across the region.
