A 19-year-old engineering student from Grand Valley State University died after being struck by a bullet that traveled through the floor during a party in Tallmadge Township, Michigan.

The incident occurred when a 20-year-old individual, reportedly intoxicated, discharged multiple rounds from an upstairs bedroom. One of the bullets pierced the floor and hit the student in the head. Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition, but he died the following day.

Authorities have stated that the shooting was intentional, but the death has been officially ruled accidental. Investigators from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office are now reviewing the case and have indicated that criminal charges are under consideration. The identity of the shooter has not been released.

The tragedy has deeply shaken the university community, with classmates and faculty expressing their grief and extending condolences to the student’s family. The school has made counseling resources available to support those affected by the loss.
