Trump Rejects ‘TACO’ Label, Defends Tariff Strategy as Tactical Negotiation

President Donald Trump fired back at critics who’ve dubbed him “TACO” — short for “Trump Always Chickens Out” — over claims he backs down from aggressive tariff threats.

During a tense exchange in the Oval Office, Trump rejected the nickname as “nasty” and insisted his tariff decisions are part of a calculated strategy. He explained that announcing steep tariffs often brings foreign governments to the negotiating table, allowing the U.S. to secure favorable trade deals without needing to follow through with the full penalties.

Trump emphasized that modifying tariff plans doesn’t signal weakness but reflects successful pressure tactics that avoid unnecessary economic fallout. He credited this approach with securing stronger terms for American industries while keeping inflation in check.

As his administration continues to navigate complex global trade dynamics, Trump remains firm that bold economic moves—paired with flexibility—are key to securing long-term benefits for American workers and businesses.
