Top Republican lawmakers are closing ranks around President Donald Trump after Elon Musk ignited a firestorm by suggesting Trump’s name appears in the sealed Epstein files. The accusations, posted by Musk on social media, drew swift backlash from GOP members who dismissed the claims as reckless and baseless.

Texas Representative Pat Fallon criticized Musk’s remarks as unhelpful and unnecessary, while Representative Chip Roy said the Tesla CEO “crossed the line,” adding that such statements do nothing but distract from real issues.

Musk’s comments escalated when he implied that key Epstein-related documents were being hidden to protect Trump. Lawmakers were quick to push back. Florida Representative Randy Fine noted that any credible connection would have already surfaced during the presidential campaign, especially under political scrutiny.

Representative Tim Burchett also questioned the inconsistency of Musk’s narrative, pointing out that Musk previously allowed his son to spend time with Trump—something he likely wouldn’t have done if he believed there were credible concerns.

Although some Republicans, including Representative Anna Paulina Luna, have called for full transparency regarding the Epstein records, the majority view Musk’s claims as politically charged and lacking substance. Many believe the statements stem from Musk’s frustration over Trump’s proposed “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which reportedly cuts incentives that could impact Musk’s business ventures.

As tensions between the two prominent figures escalate, Republican leaders are signaling their continued support for Trump while seeking to shift focus back to policy priorities and party unity.
