Former gymnast and Olympic gold medalist Mary Lou Retton was arrested in May in Fairmont, West Virginia, on suspicion of driving under the influence. Police bodycam footage released this week captured her distress as officers pulled her over, citing reports of erratic driving in a Porsche.

Video shows the 57‑year‑old struggling to complete standard sobriety exercises, at one point detaching her oxygen tubes as she attempted the tests. Officers determined she failed all field sobriety evaluations. A screw‑top wine bottle was found in the passenger seat and she refused both a breathalyzer and a blood-alcohol test.

Retton pleaded no contest and received a $100 fine—a typical penalty for first‑time DUI offenses in West Virginia. In a statement issued afterward, she accepted full responsibility, called her actions “completely unacceptable,” and vowed to learn from the incident.

Known nationwide for her historic performance in the 1984 Olympics—where she became the first American woman to win all-around gold—Retton now faces public scrutiny after this unexpected legal misstep captured on camera.
