Progressive Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett made a surprise appearance at a closed-door House Oversight session this week, showing support for a former Biden aide amid the GOP-led probe into presidential fitness. She entered the meeting during testimony from Ashley Williams, a former strategic outreach director, and later dismissed concerns about President Biden’s mental acuity.
Crockett accused the “Trump regime” of fostering a hostile environment toward witnesses, declaring it essential for deputies to be “physically present” to ensure protection and accountability. She emphasized that Republicans, who launched the inquiry, were notably absent.
Although Crockett did not participate in questioning—leaving early for another commitment—she insisted her presence was meant to correct mischaracterizations and reinforce solidarity with witnesses. The development comes amid growing tensions over the investigation, which has intensified scrutiny over Biden’s administration.
Republicans, led by Oversight Chair James Comer, are examining whether Biden’s aides concealed signs of mental decline or used autopen signatures without his awareness. Crockett’s intervention marks a rare public display of defiance in the process.
