Obama Slams Trump’s “Bizarre” Russiagate Accusations in Rare Statement

In a rare and firm statement, former President Barack Obama rejected President Trump’s claim that he led a covert effort to undermine the 2016 election. The allegations, which branded Obama as the “ringleader” of the Russiagate probe, were refuted as baseless and a clear political distraction.

Obama’s office emphasized that multiple bipartisan investigations — including the Senate Intelligence Committee and Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team — consistently found no evidence of a domestic conspiracy or altered vote counts. Instead, they confirmed Russia’s interference through disinformation campaigns and cyberattacks, but without impacting election outcomes.

This rebuttal emerges amid ongoing controversy, as Trump amplifies claims based on newly released documents from DNI Tulsi Gabbard, alleging Obama-era officials manipulated intelligence during the original investigation. These claims have sparked a DOJ inquiry into potential “weaponization” of U.S. intelligence.

A statement from Obama’s team described the accusations as “ridiculous,” suggesting they serve as a diversion from other pressing political issues.
