A Bronx man accused of causing a tragic accident that killed two pedestrians is being held without bail, as prosecutors uncover chilling new evidence.

The 46-year-old defendant, who allegedly lost control of his SUV, remains jailed following arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court. Authorities revealed he sent a harrowing message to his wife shortly before the crash, expressing doubts about surviving the incident.

The victims, a couple in their 60s, were walking near the intersection when the vehicle veered into them. Both died at the scene. Prosecutors cited surveillance footage showing the driver speeding and failing to brake until impact, contradicting public assertions that blown tires caused the accident.

Following the crash, witnesses described the scene as horrifying. Authorities noted the driver was alone in the vehicle and did not report mechanical issues before the collision.

The city medical examiner officially ruled the two deaths as homicides, citing blunt force trauma and multiple vehicular impacts. Familial statements reflect deep shock and grief, calling for justice and accountability.

The judge cited the risk of flight and public safety concerns in denying bail. The case is ongoing, with preliminary hearings scheduled in the coming weeks as investigation continues.
