Former President Joe Biden has secured a $10 million advance from Hachette Book Group for his upcoming memoir, which will chronicle his four-year presidential term. Representation was handled by Creative Artists Agency, the same firm behind his 2017 bestseller Promise Me, Dad.
While substantial, the advance trails significantly behind previous major deals: Barack and Michelle Obama reportedly received about $60 million collectively, and Bill Clinton earned $15 million for his 2004 memoir. Biden’s deal is similar to that of George W. Bush, who secured an advance around $7 million post-presidency.
At 82, Biden is reportedly continuing work on the manuscript despite recent health developments, including a diagnosis of hormone-sensitive prostate cancer. Publication timelines remain uncertain, as his team works around his health and authorship schedule.
The memoir sale offers insight into how presidential legacies are monetized, with Biden’s contract signaling moderated expectations in comparison to his most recent predecessors.
