Hillary Clinton privately raised alarms about former President Joe Biden’s political future prior to his 2024 reelection campaign, according to testimony from former White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain during a recent closed-door congressional hearing.
Klain revealed that both Clinton and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan approached him before the campaign, expressing doubts about Biden’s ability to remain politically viable. They reportedly observed a noticeable decline in his public performance, comparing it unfavorably to his 2022 appearances.
While acknowledging that Biden appeared more fatigued and at times confused, Klain maintained that the president remained mentally competent to govern. He also noted that concerns about Biden’s stamina were becoming more frequent within the administration during his final year.
Klain’s testimony stood out in a broader congressional investigation into whether the president’s aides attempted to conceal signs of decline. Unlike others who declined to answer questions, Klain cooperated fully, offering a candid account of internal concerns and political calculations leading up to the election.
