A quiet Saturday afternoon at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan turned chaotic when a man armed with a folding knife launched a sudden stabbing spree, injuring 11 people ranging in age from 21 to 84. The attack occurred just before 5 p.m., sending shoppers scrambling and prompting an immediate emergency response.

The suspect, a 42-year-old man from Afton, Michigan, was confronted by a sheriff’s deputy and bystanders—one of whom was armed—and taken into custody outside the store. Authorities confirmed that the suspect has a criminal history involving assault and drug-related offenses.

All 11 victims were transported to Munson Medical Center. As of the latest update, two individuals remain in serious condition, while others are listed as stable or have been discharged. Officials credited the swift action of civilians and law enforcement with preventing further harm.

The suspect is expected to be charged with one count of terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder. Investigators have not yet determined a motive, but local and federal law enforcement agencies are continuing to examine the attacker’s background and any potential affiliations.

The store remains closed while the crime scene is under investigation. Community mental health services have been made available for witnesses and victims’ families. Local leaders praised the bravery of those who stepped in during the terrifying ordeal and assured the public that every effort is being made to ensure accountability and justice.
