Chase Filandro, a rising TikTok creator and junior at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, has died by suicide at the age of 20. The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the cause of death as suicide on July 31.
Filandro was celebrated for his versatility as a singer, musician, actor, poet, painter, and teacher, known for his creativity, warmth, and ability to connect with people. His passing was announced by his sister, Francesca Ford, who described him as a beacon of light who touched everyone he met.
He was also the lead vocalist for the indie rock group Just Add Water and a valued member of Take 2 Studio, where colleagues and students praised his positive spirit and uplifting presence.
In the wake of his passing, a GoFundMe campaign organized by his family has raised more than $31,000 to build memorials in two national parks he loved and frequently visited.
His family has asked for privacy during this time, while many in the artistic and social media communities continue to honor his memory and the legacy of kindness and creativity he leaves behind.
