Great New Sitcom Brings Christian Faith Back To Primetime

This day and age it’s surprising to see a mainstream network actually want to support ANYTHING with one iota of Christianity but that may have changed with CBS’ new sitcom, Living Biblically.

Loosely based on the book “The Year of Living Biblically” by A.J. Jacobs, the show follows around a film critic (Chip) who picks up a Bible at a local bookstore and decides to start living a strictly biblical life.

In the book, living Biblically is really more of a stunt, but Chip on the show.. is meant to be more earnest for his reasoning. He’s lost his wife, best friend, and is seeking to be a better man and he turns to the Bible for help.

I HOPE that they stick to this premise and it doesn’t all go spiraling out of freaking control!

That said, the creator of the show, Patrick Walsh, says it is NOT meant to make Christians look dumb. He said he is not a fan of perspectives on religion that make it seem ridiculous (e.g., Bill Maher’s Religulous), but neither does he like religious entertainment that villainizes atheists (e.g., God’s Not Dead).

“I find they are both doing the same thing,” Walsh said. “What they are both angry with that the other side does, they are doing themselves.”

“A big part of my pitch was that 84 percent of the world aligns themselves with some sort of religion, and it’s never talked about,” said Walsh, who was adamant that the show it not a “gotcha!” project meant to make fun of Christians in primetime.

“I think a lot of people feel very lost,” Walsh said. “They don’t know what to do. That’s where we find Chip at the start of the show. This is a time when a lot of people will turn to religion, to the Bible, to things from the past, because the present is looking pretty scary.”

Well, here’s hoping for the best!
