In a sweeping expansion of immigration enforcement, the Trump administration has initiated a full vetting of every individual currently holding a valid U.S. visa—over 55 million in total—to assess their eligibility and identify those who may have violated immigration laws.
This “continuous vetting” process draws on a wide array of data sources, including criminal records, immigration databases, and social media content. Visa holders could face revocation and potential deportation if found to have overstayed, engaged in criminal activity, supported terrorism, or expressed anti-American or antisemitic views. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also announced an immediate halt to worker visas for commercial truck drivers following a fatal crash involving an undocumented individual.
Already, this intensified scrutiny has resulted in the cancellation of more than 6,000 student visas—many tied to criminal infractions such as assault, DUIs, and burglary, and hundreds linked to allegations of terror-related activity.
