Authorities have named 23-year-old Robin Westman—formerly known as Robert Westman—as the individual responsible for the horrific shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. The incident, which unfolded during a morning Mass, resulted in the deaths of two children (ages 8 and 10) and left at least 17 others wounded.
All firearms used in the attack—a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol—were legally purchased in the time leading up to the attack. Investigators have confirmed that Robin Westman legally changed their name in 2019 and previously attended the school where the tragedy occurred. Westman died by suicide at the scene.
Law enforcement and federal agencies, including the FBI and ATF, are treating the event as a domestic terrorism act and alleging it was motivated by hate, potentially targeting Catholics. Officials are examining the suspect’s online activity and writings, including disturbing videos and manifestos referencing past mass shooters, hate messages, and extremist ideologies.
Community leaders have responded with grief and resolve, calling for policy changes and stronger safety measures in places of worship and schools to prevent such violence in the future.
