At Nevada’s yearly Burning Man festival, a man was found dead in a pool of blood as the famous wooden effigy was being burned, setting up a gruesome scene. Authorities reported that the victim was a Caucasian adult male who was discovered at approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday.

In Black Rock City, police promptly surrounded the nearby area and opened a homicide inquiry. The location was secured, local participants were interviewed, and evidence was processed by dozens of festival staff and officials, including land management staff and deputy sheriffs.

Officials have asked visitors for help in identifying the individual, who they say is between 35 and 40 years old, roughly six feet tall, and has noticeable facial hair. The investigation is rushing against the time as the great bulk of the festival’s 70,000+ attendees start to leave.

The festival organizers asked everyone to respect the crime scene and emphasized their complete cooperation. They also underlined the importance of maintaining vigilance in the wake of the unanticipated catastrophe and reminded attendance of the support options that are available.
