President Trump has confirmed that U.S. Space Command headquarters will move from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Huntsville, Alabama, reversing the Biden administration’s earlier decision to keep the command in Colorado.
The new site at Redstone Arsenal, long known as “Rocket City” for its history with NASA and missile development, is set to become the official home of Space Command. Trump argued that Alabama’s aerospace expertise, lower costs, and strategic advantages made it the stronger choice.
The relocation is projected to bring thousands of jobs and millions in economic growth to Alabama. However, Colorado lawmakers have strongly opposed the move, warning it could disrupt military readiness and harm the state’s economy. They have already signaled potential legal challenges.
The Pentagon estimates the transfer could take three to four years, with considerable costs attached, though Alabama offers construction and staffing savings compared to Colorado.
The decision marks one of Trump’s most consequential defense infrastructure shifts since returning to the White House, sparking both celebration in Alabama and frustration in Colorado.
