Residents of Encino, one of Los Angeles’s more exclusive neighborhoods, are demanding urgent action from Mayor Karen Bass amid a spike in violent incidents and property crime. The call for intervention follows the high-profile double homicide of “American Idol” music producer Robin Kaye and her husband, as well as a string of burglaries that have neighbors on edge.
At a recent gathering outside Van Nuys City Hall, local residents—led by the Encino Property Owners Association—submitted a detailed list of safety demands to city officials. These included increasing Los Angeles Police Department presence in the neighborhood and directing law enforcement to prioritize burglary investigations.
The sense of alarm has been compounded by additional break-ins, including one at the home of a “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” cast member, reported the same day as the meeting. Local leaders argue that the LAPD is under-resourced, and they want the mayor’s office to act swiftly to restore a sense of security.
