Authorities in Washington state announced that human remains discovered in a heavily wooded area near Leavenworth are believed to belong to Travis Decker, the man wanted in connection with the June killings of his three young daughters.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the discovery was made during a coordinated search effort involving drones, cadaver dogs, and multiple law enforcement teams. Investigators reported finding clothing and personal belongings at the site that matched what Decker was last seen wearing when he disappeared into the forest months ago.

While officials strongly suspect the remains are Decker’s, a full DNA analysis is being conducted to confirm the identity. The discovery comes after weeks of extensive searches across rugged terrain, which had been complicated by summer conditions and the remote nature of the area.

The case, which drew national attention, left the local community shaken. Authorities said they hope the discovery will bring some closure to the victims’ grieving family and help conclude one of the state’s most disturbing recent manhunts.
