President Donald Trump voiced outrage after a new report alleged 274 FBI agents in plainclothes were embedded within the crowd during the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. Speaking out publicly, Trump accused former FBI Director Christopher Wray of “misleading” the American people and called for a full investigation into the bureau’s actions.
The Justice Department’s Inspector General previously concluded there was no evidence undercover FBI operatives instigated the riot, though the report did acknowledge the presence of 26 confidential human sources.
In response, House Republicans announced plans for a new subcommittee to examine the FBI’s role on January 6 and said they will press Wray to testify about the apparent discrepancy between the findings and the new report.
