In the hours after the tragic shooting of political activist Charlie Kirk, the accused assassin reportedly attempted to return to the crime scene and made contact with a police officer guarding the perimeter, law enforcement sources reveal.
The encounter took place roughly six hours after the attack and near the rooftop location where authorities recovered the rifle allegedly used in the killing. The officer was part of the lockdown detail set up around the area.
Officials say the move appears to have been an effort by the suspect to reclaim the Mauser .30-06 rifle prosecutors assert was used in the assassination.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, is now in custody and faces multiple charges including aggravated murder and obstruction of justice. He remains held without bail and housed in a specialized unit pending further legal proceedings.
