A federal ICE officer is now off duty following the release of video footage showing him forcefully shoving an Ecuadorian woman to the ground in a Manhattan immigration courthouse hallway. The incident occurred after her husband was detained during his asylum hearing.
In the footage, the woman pleads with the officer in Spanish before he pushes her against a wall, then onto the floor, where he appears to stand over her momentarily. Witnesses say she required medical attention. The woman was later hospitalized but discharged.
DHS has condemned the conduct, calling it “unacceptable,” and confirmed an internal investigation is underway. The officer’s future status within the agency remains unclear.
This disciplinary move is rare, coming amid increased scrutiny of ICE’s use of force during court operations.
