Adams Quits NYC Mayoral Race Amid Rising Headwinds

New York City Mayor Eric Adams officially ended his 2025 re-election bid Sunday, citing unrelenting media scrutiny, fundraising hurdles, and lingering doubts over past legal controversies.

In a video announcement from Gracie Mansion, Adams reflected on achievements during his term—such as reducing crime, managing the migrant crisis, and expanding housing—but acknowledged that continuing his campaign was no longer viable. His name will remain on the November ballot, as withdrawal came too late to remove it.

By stepping aside, Adams is reshuffling the mayoral field just weeks before the election. Political analysts suggest his exit may shift momentum toward his opponents—especially Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and former Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Adams declined to endorse a replacement candidate, though he urged future leadership to build upon the progress made under his administration.
