Three people were killed and numerous others were injured in a horrific mass shooting that took place from a boat at a Southport, North Carolina, waterfront restaurant. A man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Nigel Max Edge, 40, of Oak Island, has been identified by the police as the suspect. Three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, and assault with a deadly weapon are among the several charges against him.
The incident was “highly premeditated,” according to investigators. Around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, the gunman allegedly opened fire into the American Fish Company restaurant from a passing vessel.
Edge escaped along the Intracoastal Waterway following the shooting, but the U.S. Coast Guard apprehended him at a marina five miles away. There is no known ongoing threat to the public, according to law enforcement officials, who also confirmed that he acted alone.
Authorities are still investigating in order to ascertain the motive and collect further evidence.
