Newly surfaced federal records reveal that much of the money Rep. Cori Bush touted as “billions delivered” to her district actually came from defense contracts and DOJ grants—not from legislation she led. Her campaign’s own filing earlier listed only $41 million secured between 2021 and 2024.
During her recent comeback launch, Bush claimed she brought “over $2 billion and counting” home. But official documents show that sum includes nearly $49 million from Department of Defense research programs—funding she repeatedly voted against—and over $6 million in DOJ grants for law enforcement, among other federal contracts.
Critics say the discrepancy raises questions about transparency and accuracy in her public statements, especially ahead of her re-election bid.
