Tech magnate Marc Benioff publicly urged President Trump to send the National Guard to San Francisco, citing concerns over crime and safety ahead of his company’s signature conference.
Benioff, who has donated extensively to liberal causes in the past, said he now supports a stronger federal presence in the city’s policing — even suggesting troops could act in a law-enforcement capacity.
His remarks ignited a sharp backlash from local officials. San Francisco’s district attorney warned against federal overreach, affirming she would hold authorities accountable for any unlawful actions. Meanwhile, city leadership emphasized that public safety remains a local priority, and noted significant crime reductions in recent years.
The controversial proposal comes just days before Salesforce hosts its annual Dreamforce event in the city.
