Ten Times Rejected Shutdown Poised to Drag Into Another Week

Senate Democrats have for the tenth time blocked Republican efforts to pass a continuing resolution that would reopen the government, virtually guaranteeing the shutdown will spill into next week.

House Republicans have repeatedly advanced their plan, but under Senate rules requiring 60 votes to proceed, Democrats have held the line — insisting that any funding deal must include protections for Affordable Care Act subsidies and other domestic priorities.

The impasse has left hundreds of thousands of federal workers furloughed, disrupted agency operations, and heightened pressure on both parties to break the stalemate. Meanwhile, informal talks have all but stalled as each side digs deeper into its position — fueling fears this shutdown may become one of the longest in U.S. history.
