Ukrainian military sources report that approximately 5,000 Russian soldiers have been stranded on a cluster of small islands in the Dnipro River, facing starvation and deteriorating conditions as supply routes have been completely severed.
The soldiers, cut off after Ukrainian forces gained control of nearby positions, are said to be suffering from hunger, exhaustion, and disease. Ukrainian commanders claim that the isolated troops are unable to receive food, ammunition, or reinforcements, leaving them in what has been described as “floating death zones.”
Satellite imagery and drone footage reportedly confirm that multiple Russian encampments remain surrounded, with Ukrainian artillery targeting any attempt to cross the river or deliver supplies. Eyewitness accounts from captured soldiers indicate that those stranded are forced to drink contaminated river water and scavenge for anything edible as their rations ran out weeks ago.
Military analysts believe the situation underscores the growing strain on Russian logistics and morale in the southern front. The loss of mobility across the Dnipro has not only crippled Moscow’s ability to reinforce its troops but also exposed deep fractures in its command structure.
Ukrainian officials described the trapped units as remnants of earlier failed assaults, now left to die in isolation. Reports suggest that evacuation efforts have been largely abandoned, signaling one of the most devastating breakdowns in Russia’s war campaign to date.
