President Donald Trump’s legal team submitted a 111-page appeal to the New York Supreme Court’s Appellate Division late Monday, seeking to have his 34-count felony conviction thrown out. The appeal asserts the case is the “most politically charged prosecution in our nation’s history,” accusing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of using unprecedented legal tactics to target the president.
In the filing, Trump’s attorneys argue that key evidence should have been excluded under presidential immunity precedents, and they challenge the presiding judge’s impartiality based on past contributions to Democratic causes. The appeal also reiterates a request to move the case from state to federal court. If granted, the case could ultimately reach the U.S. Supreme Court.
The conviction stemmed from falsified business records linked to hush-money payments during Trump’s 2016 campaign. While Trump currently faces no jail time or fine, the appeal remains a pivotal next step in his effort to clear his record.
