Former television news anchor Angelynn “Angie” Mock, age 47, is facing a first-degree murder charge after her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, was found stabbed to death at the family home in Wichita, Kansas, on October 31.
When police arrived at the residence, they discovered Avers unresponsive in bed with multiple stab wounds. Mock was located outside the home shortly afterward, her hands and clothing reportedly covered in blood. She had sustained cuts to her hands as well.
According to dispatch records, Mock told 911 operators that she had stabbed her mother “to save myself,” a statement that suggests a claim of self-defense. A neighbor reported that Mock approached a vehicle in the neighborhood asking to use a phone to call emergency services.
At the time of her arrest, Mock was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on $1 million bond. Investigators continue to interview witnesses and review evidence as they build the case.
Previously, Mock worked as a television anchor and reporter in St. Louis and later shifted into data-management consulting. At this stage, the motive behind the alleged killing remains unknown.
