A bomb threat directed at New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has prompted a formal hate-crime investigation by the NYPD, heightening security concerns ahead of the election. The anonymous threat reportedly arrived via voicemail and referenced a car bomb, urging Mamdani to leave the city or face violence.

In response, the White House condemned the threat and emphasized that violence and intimidation have no place in political campaigns. A statement from the administration called for immediate law-enforcement action and stressed the importance of protecting election integrity.

Mamdani, who would become New York’s first Muslim mayor if elected, addressed the threat publicly, stating that he and his team would not be intimidated and that the incident underscores broader issues of bigotry and division in politics.

Federal, state and local agencies are now coordinating on the investigation, reviewing digital logs and surveillance footage to identify the caller. The candidate’s campaign has also been granted an increased police security detail.
